 | HPS Germany has opened a new product line, i.e. MLI (Multi-layer insulation). The manufacturing is located in Portugal (HPS Portugal). Thus, very cost efficient routes and short delivery times can be provided, while in parallel the globally commonly used raw material foils (from the international standard suppliers) and state of the art stacking processes will be applied. |
MLI is a passive thermal control system that covers spacecraft structures at thermally sensitive parts. It consists of different layers and spacers to reduce the heat flow into the spacecraft see figure below.
Engineering and manufacturing is headed by mainly the following persons:
HPS‘s Head of Thermal Protection Section worked for and managed in the past a lot of spacecraft thermal protection systems during employment at ESA/ESTEC. For example, he was responsible for the thermal protection systems of Huygens, Rosetta, Marsnet, Intermarnet, Mercury Orbiter, Hermes , CTV, ARD, CRV.
Our MAIT processes are going to be lead by our highly experienced MLI Senior Specialist who worked until 1999 more than 25 years at Astrium in this area: Thermal control and thermal protection developments in various projects and studies contracted by industry and by ESA/ESTEC; among many others these are e.g. HEOS-1, Cassini Huygens, ASTRO-SPAS, COS-B, Exosat, ISO, Metosat-1 to 7.
