| (2006 – 2008) | | The main objectives of this activity are the following: - To define and design an adequate prototype of a typical electronic box for manufacturing using a RTM process.
- To manufacture the prototype using a RTM process.
- To perform basic mechanical (static and dynamic) verification tests on the prototype to demonstrate that the mechanical design requirements have been successfully achieved.
- To compare the specific RTM manufacturing cost to traditional manufacturing technologies (aluminium, composite pre-preg).

| Customer: ESA/ESTEC and Kayser-Threde (2006 - 2008) | | | This activity is to design, manufacture and demonstrate in a mock-up of a typical telecommunications satellite a distributed fiber optic sensing subsystem based on a single interrogation unit and encompassing a large number of sensing elements for measuring temperature, mechanical stress, pressure and other parameters anywhere throughout the spacecraft in a unified and autonomous manner. |

| (2004 – 2005) | | Current optical baffles for e.g. star sensors are made out of aluminum. Due to increasing mass and accuracy requirements, baffles out of composite materials come into the discussion. New manufacturing methods and advanced materials enable to produce ultra-lightweight baffles which keep its shape also during changing thermal environment. Mass savings of up to 40% can be achieved by more or less equal recurring cost. This study included a preliminary design of a complete baffle and the manufacturing of example apertures. |

| Customer: ESA/ESTEC (2005 – 2008) | | The study aims at selecting two model nano-composite systems. One system shall contain a low volume fraction of CNT as reinforcement (few %); the other one shall contain a high volume fraction, 30% being the target. Three different processes with a) ceramic matrix and b) copper matrix have been developed and samples have been manufactured. The enhancement of properties and its improvement potential brought by presence of CNT with respect to the bulk matrix has been evaluated. |
